Close your Eyes

Sometimes, when your eyes are closed, you can see your dreams. Ever so clearly.

The Red Flowers

When I was a little girl we had a huge 10 acre field behind our house. I spent a lot of my childhood there. It was wonderful. I would get up in the morning, at the break of dawn, (which my daughter now does, and it drives me crazy, just like, I am sure, it did my own mother! ) and I would venture out into my very own private world.

It consisted of high grass, a creek, huge gum trees, pine trees to climb and native shrubs, a big rock pile which usually had a cubby built within its formation, big logs and two ex racing horses, who became pretend unicorns that came from the land beyond the rainbow.

And in spring the entire field was covered in these red, white and occasional burgundy flowers.
I absolutely love them. They always make me feel like home.

The paddock is gone now. It was transformed into a housing estate, at a time when I was moving from child into adult. It somehow felt like the passage of youth. I spent many days cursing that big yellow bulldozer, and crying about my childhood, ending so abruptly and in such a cruel way. That my playground, of childhood dreams and fantasies, of fairyland, flying kites whilst lying in waist high grass, making tunnels and creating adventures with the neighbourhood children. Of sneaking out at night, while the rest of the world was sleeping, to lay in the grass, feeling the soft wind blowing, the gentle warmth of darkness and stare up at the universe, overwhelmed with the feeling of love for the earth. It used to fill my soul and make me shed tears of wonderment and joy, and it was coming to an end.

That is why I love them so much. The memories of my childhood. So rich, colourful and bright.  Never, ever forgotten.

The canola fields

There are flowers blooming. And living in the Adelaide Hills, we get to enjoy so many variations of colour. Sometimes found in a huge field, of yellow and green. The flight of butterflies and the buzz of the bees. Canola as far as the eye can see. And dark skies above, ready to burst with a spring shower.
And this sweet child of mine, standing in the middle of it all.

The Silver Crown

We made a crown. A silver one. With sparkles and butterflies and pretty diamonds too. It was like a princess crown, only better. Because it was made together, with love. Something to celebrate the start of spring. At long last. A change of seasons and a fresh, gorgeous day.

In the end, craziness will always will out. No matter how princess like you are.

Spring Lambs!

Our sweet neighbouring girls have adopted two little Lambs. They were abandoned by their mothers and need a bottle feed every six hours! That means getting up at 5am to give them a snack! Either way, they are incredibly cute little bundles of wool!

Dance like no one is watching

Dance like no one is watching
Live like it's heaven on earth.

She is mine

She is mine.
For now.

Not for long.
So I must adore her
while I can.

Vintage child

I adore this child. I love how black and white, (or should I say, aged and white ) tells so much more of a story than colour ever could.

A little bit of soul to help me breathe.

“To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.”

My boy

I was looking through old photos from last year and came across a few that I liked but had not edited. It's nearly time to do another yearly session with my boy, something I like to do near or around the time of his birthday. I find it's a great way to remember his sweetness and what he was like at that age!

Nearly 5

My little girl is nearly 5 years old! I can't believe how quickly that time has flown!

I made myself a little task. Every year my children have a birthday, I take them out for a little photo shoot, and make sweet memories of them at this age!

Here she is!

Seat of The Soul

I always imagine the spirit as a part that does not really belong to our bodies.
It is so much more than that.

Sometimes it rises, sometimes it falls.
Yet in all cases, it transcends all those simple, earthly things.
It is a matter of wonder and ethereal beauty.

At the seat of the Soul.

Spin

Sometimes a spinning world is a good thing.

Stand Quietly

Stand quietly.
Stop moving and just breathe.
Only then can you hear the beauty of life speak.

Gold

I closed my eyes, and breathed it in.
The scent of fallen leaves, of the earth and the damp ground beneath me.
To lay in the wealth of golds and reds, the leaves softness and the poking twigs in my hair and clothes. To wonder if I ever knew what it was
to be so wealthy as this.

8 Years Old

Now your 8.

Halfway to getting your drivers licence. Halfway to being in year 10! A third of the way to maybe finishing that uni degree. Or traveling, or falling in love with your future wife. A quarter of the way to becoming a father... Maybe.

The future is way ahead of you, son. But for now, don't grow up too quickly! I want to capture all your days and treasure them. Hold them close to my heart and soul. For the rest of my life.

Crazy!

Some people never go crazy, What truly horrible lives they must live. - Charles Bukowski

Time to let the water wash over you.

Things that make me think and feel. Things that make me smile.

Bath time in our household. A time to relax, close your eyes. Let the water flow around and over you.

My Girlie Girl all Serious!

Can she be any more serious?

So, I had to make use of the look and do something a little bit different...

This photograph, with her eyes closed, just speaks volumes to me. It's so innocent, but as though she has been lost forever to the dreaming. Like the old Victorian photographs of children, loved and adored by their parents, but only captured when they have passed on.
Maybe it is wrong to portray my child in such a manner. Be assured, she is well and truly living out her dreams with full gusto!
